Weld Neck Flange

Butt-welded flange with a tapered hub for high-pressure and cyclic service.

Weld neck flange technical illustration

Typical applications

  • High-pressure process piping
  • Steam and condensate
  • Hydrocarbon service
  • Cyclic duty

The weld neck flange transfers pipe stress through a tapered hub and a butt-weld connection, making it the preferred choice for high-pressure, high-temperature and cyclic piping. The bore matches the pipe schedule to reduce turbulence and weld inspection is straightforward.

  • Tapered hub distributes stress into the pipe wall
  • Butt-weld connection suitable for radiography
  • Raised-face, flat-face and RTJ options
  • Bore matched to pipe schedule

Slip-On Flange

Economical flange that slips over the pipe and is fillet-welded in place.

Slip-on flange technical illustration

Typical applications

  • Utility piping
  • Low-pressure process lines
  • Water and wastewater
  • HVAC and cooling

Slip-on flanges slide over the pipe and are attached with two fillet welds. They offer lower installed cost and easier alignment than weld neck flanges, with adequate strength for many low- and medium-pressure services.

  • Lower cost than weld neck construction
  • Easier field alignment before welding
  • Suitable for low- and medium-pressure service
  • Raised-face and flat-face options

Lap Joint Flange

Two-piece flange and stub end assembly for easy bolt-hole alignment.

Lap joint flange technical illustration

Typical applications

  • Stainless piping
  • Alloy process lines
  • Tight installation spaces
  • Frequent disassembly

Lap joint flanges use a stub end welded to the pipe and a loose flange that rotates into position. The design simplifies bolt-hole alignment in tight spaces and allows the flange material to be selected independently of the wetted stub end.

  • Rotating flange simplifies bolt alignment
  • Stub end can be a different alloy from the flange
  • No weld at the flange face
  • Common in stainless and alloy piping

Socket Weld Flange

Compact flange for small-bore high-pressure piping with a socket weld connection.

Socket weld flange technical illustration

Typical applications

  • Small-bore high-pressure lines
  • Instrument piping
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Steam tracing

Socket weld flanges are used on small-bore, high-pressure lines where a full-penetration butt weld is impractical. The pipe enters a recessed socket and is fillet-welded, providing a strong connection with good alignment.

  • Compact small-bore connection
  • Good alignment without backing rings
  • Suitable for high-pressure utility and instrument lines
  • Available in Class 300–1500
